Samsung has added a new digital signage monitor to its product lineup. It requires no cables at all, because it sports a 4,600mAh battery that is supposed to last 200 days on a full charge if the displayed content is changed once per day. This is made possible by an extremely efficient e-ink panel that only needs power when the screen content is changed.
Specifically, Samsung is using a 32-inch panel with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, which should mean that even smaller text is legible. Screen content can be transmitted wirelessly via WiFi or Bluetooth, while a USB-C port is used for charging. The Samsung EM32DX also has 8GB of internal storage, so that multiple images can be stored locally. New pictures can be uploaded via a Samsung E-Paper smartphone app, which is available for both Apple iPhones and Android smartphones.
Alternatively, Samsung provides an online platform through which content can be managed. This website conveniently displays a preview of how images will look on the e-paper screen, which is important since these panels can display far fewer colors than LCDs or even OLED screens.
According to Samsung's marketing material, the e-ink monitor saves a lot of power compared to conventional digital displays, and it obviously takes significantly less effort to update content on the screen compared to printing a new conventional sign. That said, Samsung has not provided any pricing details, but the EM32DX is expected to become available via the company’s usual B2B channels.
