The Dasung Paperlike 13K has been officially announced a few weeks ago. Now, Dasung is finally accepting orders and has further introduced another model variant with a touch-sensitive color panel. Apart from these two new features, both versions of the portable monitor are identical.
In any case, Dasung utilizes a 13.3-inch panel with a 4:3 aspect ratio and resolution of 3200 x 2400 pixels at a pixel density of 300 PPI. That said, the pixel density of e-ink displays typically drops to 150 PPI when displaying colors. A noteworthy feature of the Paperlike 13K mini PC is its refresh rate of 37Hz, which turns it into one of the faster e-ink monitors in the world. Nonetheless, the screen is not really suitable for watching videos or playing games, but the refresh rate should be sufficient for regular office work and other text-heavy use cases.
As usual, the e-ink panel has major advantages, as it consumes very little power and remains perfectly visible even in direct sunlight. At night, a front LED can be activated and provides either warm or cool white light. The aluminum housing weighs just 1.6 lbs. Dasung includes a small stand in the box, but the company also offers a magnetic case with a stand function and a VESA adapter for monitor mounts. Computers can be connected via USB-C or mini HDMI.
Price and availability
The Dasung Paperlike 13K monitor is now available at the manufacturer's online store. The monochrome version sells for $679, while the color display with touch functionality costs $749 excluding shipping and potential import duties. Please note that this new e-ink monitor is only compatible with Windows and Linux, but not with Apple’s macOS.
