LG has released a new Dual Mode gaming monitor built around its WOLED panel technology. To recap, the company brought the Nano IPS-based UltraGear 27G850A with similar dual refresh rate technology. Prior to that, it started selling the UltraGear OLED 455GX950A that can switch between 1080p and 5K2K to achieve 330 Hz and 165 Hz refresh rates, respectively.
By contrast, the UltraGear OLED 32GX870A can output at up to 240 Hz when set to 4K and 480 Hz at 1080p while maintaining 0.03 ms GtG response times. According to LG, the new monitor also offers AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync technologies to mitigate image tearing at high refresh rates. On top of that, the UltraGear OLED 32GX870A delivers up to 275 nits SDR and 1,300 nits HDR peak brightnesses.
In other words, the UltraGear OLED 32GX870A appears to feature the same underlying panel technology as last year's UltraGear OLED 32GS95UE. However, LG has added its webOS operating system, a USB Type-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and 90 W Power Delivery, and a DisplayPort 2.1 port. Please note that the latter delivers 54 Gbps peak bandwidth (UHBR 13.5) rather than the 80 Gbps (UHBR 20) needed to do away with using Display Stream Compression (DSC) at 4K and 240 Hz.
The UltraGear OLED 32GX870A also contains a pair of HDMI 2.1 inputs, a 3.5 mm jack and two USB 3.0 Type-A ports. For some reason, the monitor misses out on USB Type-B connectivity. Regardless, the new monitor can be purchased in the US for $1,399.99 from Amazon, Best Buy or LG directly. Please see LG's website for more technical specifications.
