PS3 emulation hit a new milestone when the developer behind RPCS3 introduced RPCS3-Android. Since its introduction, the Android version of the popular PlayStation 3 emulator has seen many updates, which brought a handful of emulation improvements to the table.
While all that meant a great start for PS3 emulation on Android, the developer behind RPCS3-Android discontinued the app. The good news is that the same developer has now introduced a new PlayStation 3 emulator for Android, RPCSX-UI-Android. At the core, it's basically the same emulation software with the same user interface but with a different name.
Even the overall emulation experience with the new PS3 emulator for Android is the same as the last version of RPCS3-Android. For example, the app requires users to install a PlayStation 3 firmware before emulating any games. Speaking of running games, just like RPCS3-Android, RPCSX-UI-Android has support for both PKG and ISO formats.
Moreover, there's support for physical and virtual controllers (abxylute S9 mobile controller curr. $69.99 on Amazon), and the new PlayStation 3 emulator for Android has a virtual home button. This home button gives players easy access to different functions like screen recording, taking screenshots, and loading save states.
Regarding what's new with RPCSX-UI-Android, it brings several bug fixes and emulation improvements over the last release of RPCS3-Android. Even so, the newly introduced PS3 emulator for Android is still in its early stages, and it might not be able to run or start all the PlayStation 3 games smoothly.
As for how to download the new PS3 emulator for Android, DHrpcs3, the developer, has made it available on GitHub. There's also a detailed changelog available for those who are interested to see what improvements RPCX-UI-Android brings over the last version of RPCS3-Android.
