PS3 emulation on Android is steadily reaching the same state as other popular emulators that are available on mobile. Just recently, the developer behind RPCS3 launched the Android version of the PlayStation 3 emulator, RPCS3-Android, and right after the introduction, it was replaced by RPCSX-UI-Android, which is from the same developer.
As we detailed in our last coverage, RPCSX-UI-Android is basically a better version of the RPCS3-Android, and at launch, it brought a handful of improvements over the previous PS3 emulator for Android. Just a few days after release, RPCSX-UI-Android received a sizeable update, which brought more improvements to the table.
Per the patch notes, the new version of RPCSX-UI-Android, v20250417, introduces a new feature: the ability to map inputs. This should allow gamers to customize the controller layout, something that users without physical controllers could benefit from (Razer Kishi V2 curr. $85 on Amazon).
Besides this new feature, the latest version of RPCSX-UI-Android brings multiple fixes, which include a fix for the control panel movement and D-pad scaling. Users who tried the new version of the PS3 emulator for Android have also noticed a minor performance upgrade, but as a Redditor who is part of the RPCS3 team notes, major performance uplifts are expected from future releases.
Nonetheless, with these frequent updates, it seems that RPCSX-UI-Android is very likely to reach its stable version very soon. For those interested in trying out version 20250417 of RPCSX-UI-Android, it's available on GitHub, but given that this PS3 emulator for Android is still in its early days, not all PlayStation 3 games may run smoothly or run at all.
