After launching eco-friendly G-Shock GA010CE-2A and GD010CE-5 earlier in February, Casio is bringing yet another rugged watch made out of recycled materials to the US market. The new G-Shock G-5600BG-5 features a unique look crafted from recycled resin scraps leftover from Casio’s own factory lines.
The cool part here is how Casio is repurposing its manufacturing leftovers from other watches. Instead of tossing out waste resin in white and olive green, they powder it down and mix it into the beige resin to create the G-5600BG's bezel and band. This results in a subtle, marbled speckling effect throughout the watch's exterior. Because the mixing results in random patterns, Casio notes that no two watches will be exactly alike.
Underneath that unique recycled shell, it’s still very much a reliable G-Shock built on the classic square G-5600 platform. It comes with Casio’s Tough Solar technology, meaning the watch sips power from ambient light (sunlight or artificial light), drastically reducing the need for battery changes. And naturally, it wouldn't be a G-Shock without serious durability, with the watch offering robust shock resistance against drops and knocks and 200 meters of water resistance. It also packs in a bright Super Illuminator LED backlight, world time covering 48 cities, five daily alarms, and a full auto-calendar.
Pricing & Availability
If you dig the blend of classic G-Shock aesthetics and a unique eco-friendly design, the G-5600BG offers a pretty compelling package for $150. It's now available for purchase directly from Casio.com and authorized US G-Shock dealers.
