Casio has launched a new G-Shock diver's watch, the MR-G Frogman MRG-BF1000RG, with a motif based on the world's largest frog called the Goliath (Conraua goliath). The premium MR-G uses various shades of green and design motifs from the Goliath frog.
The rugged watch is specially constructed for diving from over 70 parts, with a locking screw-down crown, protective cladding, and fluorine rubber cushioning to protect the main module. The titanium case, bezel, and case back are specially treated with titanium carbide and hardened to increase their strength and durability up to 200 meters (656 ft.) underwater.
The center of the screw-on case back has a bright green vapor-deposited sapphire glass that resembles the frog's eyes. The sapphire also lets the watch receive radio time signals worldwide better than a metal case back.
The front of the watch is protected by a spherical sapphire glass with interior anti-reflective coatings allowing easy viewing of the dive time and rest time indicators. The hands and hour markers are coated with extra-thick Neobrite phosphorescent paint and optionally lit by the Super Illuminator high-intensity LED for high visibility under any dive condition.
For divers, the watch keeps track of the dive time in 1-second increments up to 2 hours and the surface rest time up to 24 hours. The watch records up to 30 dive entries for reference. Users can use a Bluetooth-connected smartphone to make settings changes remotely.
The watch can set the time automatically when in China, Japan, Europe, or the US. Its Tough Solar watch face can power the watch indefinitely, and each full charge powers the watch for up to five months. The Frogman also comes with all the usual timekeeping features, such as a tide graph, dual-time, stopwatch, and alarm.
The feature-packed watch is scheduled to go on sale May 23 at an MSRP of 572,000 yen (~$4,079). Worldwide pricing has not been announced. Readers should know that Casio watches at this spec level are typically only available through the company website and high-end watch vendors, not the Casio store on Amazon US.
