Souls-like games, much like the source material, are often serious and borrow heavily from dark fantasy themes. Another Crab's Treasure, on the other hand, is the diametric opposite. It is about as difficult a game of the genre would be, but it doesn't take itself seriously and is packed to the brim with nautical puns and references to previous Souls games.
In Another Crab's Treasure, you play as Krill, a hermit crab who has his shell stolen by a tax collector. One thing leads to another, and you find yourself at the bottom of the ocean, where things work differently. The game's equivalent of Souls are microplastics, and yes, you lose them when you die. Another Crab's Treasure has a Sekiro-inspired combat that incentivizes timed parries over dodging.
Another mechanic you'll interact with often is shells. You'll find them lying around everywhere, and each shell has unique properties. Of course, some shells are better than others, but it largely comes down to your play style and how you've specced your character. There isn't much in the way of customization, but that's fine because Another Crab's Treasure is an indie. And, if all of this seems overwhelming, you can mount a gun to your back and blast away. Of course, that isn't the intended way to play but the option's there.
