Just weeks after we first reported that Casio was working on a skeleton-style refresh of the G-Shock GBX-100, new images have now given us a much clearer picture of what’s to come. The latest photos - likely promotional shots for the Japanese market - show two GBX-100S variants, both sticking with the square form factor of the original G-Lide series but adding a "summer" touch to both construction and styling.
The new variants stick to the core GBX-100 design but swap the solid resin case for a clear skeleton-style shell and pair it with a brushed stainless-steel bezel - a combination that hasn't been seen in Casio’s surf-focused lineup (yet). We did already know this - what we weren't aware of was the fact that two new colorways will be unveiled. One features a bold black-and-blue split strap, while the other sticks with an all-black design. Both maintain the square G-Lide silhouette and appear to retain the familiar high-contrast MIP LCD, which displays tide charts, moon data, and sunrise/sunset times synced via Bluetooth.
The software UI appears unchanged, at least from the images. We know the watches will have standard surf data and fitness tracking support via the G-Shock Move app. Despite the design upgrades, the watch’s core features remain tied to the GBX-100TT-2JF base model.
One image (below) suggests a bioplastic strap may be used, but the case still looks to be traditional resin. The environmental angle could be present more for marketing than meaningful material change - though Casio has gone further in past G-Lide and Surfrider releases.
A May release is expected in Japan, with wider availability to follow soon after. Pricing hasn’t leaked yet, but if Casio sticks to the ~$190 range, this could be the most stylish (and desirable) GBX variant to date.
