Last week, Nubia teased that the Nubia Z70 Ultra will receive a successor in the form of the Z70S Ultra this April. Now, Nubia has further confirmed that the phone will be equipped with a main camera with a 35mm full-frame equivalent focal length, instead of the 24mm main cameras that are found in many other smartphones. However, this camera could feature a brand-new sensor.
According to a leak from @TechHome100, the main camera sensor will grow from 1/1.56 inches to 1/1.3 inches, which would put Nubia on par with flagships like Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro and Google’s Pixel 9 Pro. That said, it’s unclear if Nubia can still incorporate a variable aperture lens. On the Z70 Ultra, it could be adjusted from f/1.6 to f/4.0 for a greater depth of field. Nubia is expected to offer a mechanical camera shutter, similar to those of compact cameras. Furthermore, the new Z70S Ultra could sport a true all-screen design, as Nubia could opt for an invisible under-display selfie camera.
The remaining specifications are still up in the air. The already available Nubia Z70 Ultra is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, a 50MP f/2.0 ultrawide camera, 64MP f/2.5 periscope telephoto camera with a 1/2 inch sensor and 2.7x zoom, as well as a 16MP selfie camera. Its 6,150mAh battery can be charged via USB-C with up to 80 watts. We praised the display, camera setup, and battery life in our in-depth review, but we criticized the smartphone’s high temperatures under load and the lack of wireless charging.
