Deal | The gigantic 83-inch Samsung OLED TV plummets to $1800 in a limited-time deal

When OLED TV technology became mainstream, even the smallest options were expensive. Fortunately, prices have fallen to the point that an 83-inch display is more affordable. The enormous Samsung S85D is now available at Best Buy at a steep $600 discount. Unlike most 4K projectors, this Samsung OLED TV is ideal for large rooms with ambient lighting. However, it won't stay at $1800 for long, as the countdown clock on the deal is ticking.

The 83-inch Samsung S85D is part of the manufacturer's entry-level OLED lineup. Still, it doesn't limit owners who need to connect multiple components to the 4K TV. All four HDMI ports meet the 2.1 standard, enabling a maximum 120 Hz refresh rate. Gamers also benefit from VRR, which minimizes stuttering during hectic action. Unlike some competitors, the Game Mode with S85D encourages low-latency gameplay without washing out images. 

With a Samsung OLED TV this large, buyers might wonder if a projector is a better value. While LCD 4K projectors in this price range can project an image of 100 inches or more, there are several drawbacks. Black levels are unlikely to impress compared to the S85D, which utilizes a WOLED panel with a high contrast ratio. Samsung's display also excels even in bright living rooms, while projectors demand a darker environment for optimal performance. The 85D handles reflections effortlessly, and viewers will enjoy a sharp picture from any viewing angle.

If the Samsung S85D has one drawback, it's with its less-than-ideal HDR brightness. The OLED TV is powerful enough to withstand sunlight, but HDR mode doesn't make colors pop like higher-end models. Nevertheless, it's a well-rounded choice for a mix of TV viewing, movie-watching, and gaming.

One of the only affordable large-format rivals to the Samsung S85D is the LG B4. Some viewers find the 83-inch version of the LG OLED TV a bit brighter and prefer its webOS interface. Regardless, it has yet to match the $1800 deal price of S85D.
