Philips presents new ultra-wide 5K2K monitor with Thunderbolt 4 ports
Philips has presented the 40B1U6903CH, ostensibly a smaller version of the 45B1U6900CH that launched earlier this year. According to the manufacturer, the 40B1U6903CH relies on a 39.7-inch IPS panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a 5,120 x 2,160-pixel (5K2K) native resolution. The monitor also has a modest 2500R curvature and a 75 Hz refresh rate.
Philips states that the monitor offers 300 nits peak brightness too, plus 4 ms response times (GtG) and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio. Moreover, the 40B1U6903CH delivers colour space coverages of 134% sRGB, 103% NTSC and 98% DCI-P3. In other words, the monitor is colour accurate but not that bright. Philips mentions that HDR10 support is onboard, albeit without providing HDR brightness values.
Arguably, one of the monitor's stand-out features is its Thunderbolt 4 upstream port, which can recharge connected devices at up to 90 W. Philips has also included a Thunderbolt 4 downstream port that supports data and 15 W Power Delivery, along with twin HDMI 2.0, single DisplayPort 1.4 and six other USB ports. The Philip 40B1U6903CH will be available in the UK later this month for £1,499.99. Alternatively, the same monitor will be orderable in the Eurozone for €1,849.
