A Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign is underway for the Philips x Kokoon Sleep Headphones. Kokoon claims these are the world’s first AI sleep headphones, helping you fall and stay asleep. The brand suggests the gadget could be helpful when on a plane, if you have noisy neighbours or generally struggle to sleep.
The Philiips x Kokoon Sleep Headphones have noise-masking technology, and you can choose to play an audiobook, music or soothing sound effects such as rain to help you fall asleep. Then, white and pink noise can be played to fade out background sounds and help you stay asleep. The headphones are equipped with biometric sensors that detect when you fall asleep and fade or switch the audio accordingly. The accompanying app includes an AI sleep coach and a recommended sleep schedule based on your biometrics. The earbuds have been designed for comfort even when sleeping on your side, measuring 5.4 mm thick; for comparison, the Apple AirPods are 16.2 mm thick. The headphones last for up to 11 hours and are recharged via USB-C.
You can currently pledge US$175 to the Philips x Kokoon Sleep Headphones Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to receive the device when it ships this October. It is worth noting that the company only plans to ship to selected countries, including the US, the UK, the Netherlands and France. At the time of writing, the project has over 2,000 backers and has raised over US$400,000, far surpassing its target of US$12,727. After the campaign, the gadget will retail for over US$285.
