Denon PerL Pro: New premium TWS earbuds deliver Masimo AAT and Qualcomm aptX Lossless with 10 mm dynamic drivers
Denon has introduced the PerL Pro, a pair of TWS earbuds based on the NuraTrue Pro. While that may seem like an odd collaboration, Masimo, the parent company of Denon and Bowers & Wilkins, acquired Nura in April. Seemingly, part of that acquisition included revising the NuraTrue Pro as the PerL (Personalised Listing) Pro.
At any rate, the PerL Pro offer Masimo's Adaptive Acoustic Technology (AAT), a patented technology that can create personal audio profiles, mirroring Nura's previous offerings. According to Denon, it has equipped the PerL Pro with a Qualcomm-derived Bluetooth chip, allowing it to enable aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless codecs. Lower resolution AAC and SBC codecs are still supported, but aptX Lossless can transmit up to 1,000 kbit/s audio using Bluetooth 5.3.
Additionally, the PerL Pro supports Bluetooth Multipoint for connecting to two devices simultaneously. Also, Denon notes that the earbuds have 10 mm dynamic titanium drivers that cover 20 Hz to 40 kHz. Moreover, the PerL Pro is said to last up to 8 hours on a single charge and 32 hours when factoring its charging case. Incidentally, the latter supports USB Type-C wired or Qi wireless charging like many of its competitors.
The Denon PerL Pro retails for US$349/£249/€349 and comes in a sole black colour option. Alternatively, the similar but cheaper Denon PerL costs US$199/£189/€199. In short, the PerL lacks aptX Lossless support and has worse battery life than the PerL Pro. Adaptive ANC makes way for standard ANC too, but the overall design, Masimo AAT and customisable touch controls remain. Currently, Denon is selling a few units of both models in the US before embarking on a full global launch 'later this year', with a UK debut due in the autumn.
