Qualcomm S5 Gen 3 Sound Platform debuts for next-gen peripherals with AI-enhanced ANC
Qualcomm has launched the S5 Gen 3 as the next tier down from its flagship audio solution. It is based on an architecture heretofore exclusive to the top-end S7 Sound Platform, touted to enhance its 4th-gen Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation with improved AI.
The S5 Gen 3 platform also supports cVc Echo Cancelling and Noise Suppression (ECNS) for voice calls, and is rated to deliver "significantly more DSP processing power" and a DAC experience by reducing its noise floor by up to 50% compared to S5 Gen 2. Accordingly, Qualcomm backs it to help OEMs deliver next-gen premium peripherals with potentially greatly improved, more immersive audio.
The Qualcomm S3 Gen 3 Sound platform, on the other hand, is pitched at their counterparts from the next tier down. Nevertheless, it is the first of its line to confer access to the Snapdragon Sound suite of features, 48kHz 24-bit lossless music streaming and aptX Lossless included.
The first OEM to take it up has been revealed already. Vivo's General Manager of its Intelligent Terminal Development department Youfei Wang has yet to identify the inaugural S3 Gen 3-powered product, yet backs it to deliver "audiophile quality music listening to our customers" in the near future.
