Redditor unearths details of Spotify ‘Supremium’ HiFi plan with lossless audio and US$20/month price in app code

Teaser
A Reddit user while digging through the Spotify app code has discovered details of its 'Supremium' HiFi plan that is likely to be launched soon. It will feature 24-bit lossless audio, AI-enabled playlist creation, 30 hours of audiobooks every month and DJ-like BPM matching and transitioning between tracks. The plan pricing is listed as US$19.99/month.

Despite its popularity, Spotify remains one of the few music streaming services that doesn’t offer a lossless audio option in its plans. Well, that might change very soon. Buried in the Spotify app code, Reddit user u/Hypixely has discovered detailed references to an upcoming plan codenamed ‘Nemo’ with a number of premium features, including but not limited to 24-bit lossless audio. From previous rumors, we know that this plan is going to be called Supremium. Here’s what the leak, which appears to include a plan benefits comparison, has revealed.

In addition to 24-bit lossless audio, there is a claim of “no lag and delays”. Subscribers to the new plan will get 30 hours of audiobook listening every month. Also mentioned is the ability to create AI powered playlists (“Ask Spotify to create playlists for you in seconds using the power of AI”), which would likely allow tailor-made playlists to be created based on specific and natural prompts.

The "ability to filter your library by mood, activity and genre" will also bring the experience more in line with how people naturally listen to music. The 'Soundcheck' feature will provide insights about your listening habits and "what mix of sounds is uniquely you", which is sure to be popular with a lot of music-lovers.

Another interesting feature mentioned by the leaker is “advanced mixing tools”, which includes the following capabilities: “customizing the order of a playlist by BPM or danceability, or use Smart Order to create the best sequence using key and tempo; enabling smooth transitions which use set cue points to seamlessly transition between tracks; filtering by moods and genres in a playlist”. Together, these should effectively translate to a DJ-like experience, but without all the associated gear and skills, and should come pretty handy for playing in parties and events.

The leaker has noted mentions of ‘Nemo Duo’ and ‘Nemo Family’, implying that these variations of the new plan will be available as well. The pricing of the new Supremium plan will be US$20/month, although that figure could change upon launch. Spotify has talked about its plans for launching the HiFi plan before, but with competitors like Apple Music and Amazon Music including lossless audio in their existing plans, it seems to have felt the need to offer more value in its premium plan, specially at a higher price.
