Amazon Fire Max 11: Affordable 11-inch tablet with app limitations
Amazon's largest tablet to date also has the fastest SoC to date. The 11-inch Fire Max 11 contains the mid-range MediaTek MT8188J SoC, which has a total of eight CPU cores, is supported by the Mali-G57 MP2 for graphics processing and has up to 4 GB of RAM at its disposal.
Those who settle for advertisting pay less
Amazon offers the Fire Max 11 with either 64 or 128 eMMC storage and in a configuration with or without advertising. If you opt for the slightly cheaper option with advertising, sponsored screensavers are displayed on the lock screen and in sleep mode.
The four configuration variants are:
- 64 GB, with lockscreen ads: $189.99 (currently out of stock)
- 64 GB, without lockscreen ads: $244.99
- 128 GB, with lockscreen ads: (option currently unavailable, but $279.99 at Best Buy)
- 128 GB, without lockscreen ads: (currently out of stock)
The 11-inch tablet is also available in a bundle with an stylus pen and/or a keyboard case and starts at around 395 euros. Like the tablet, the stylus comes in a plain gray, supports 4096 levels of pressure and is magnetically attached to the left and bottom sides of the tablet. The two-part keyboard case consists of the QWERTY keyboard unit and a protective cover for the back cover, both covered in soft gray fabric.
The Google Play Store is almost mandatory for productive work
Aside from a 3-month trial of Office 365, the Fire Max 11 doesn't come preinstalled with any apps that can serve as work tools. Anyone who really wants to work productively on the tablet, which is even possible outdoors with its 564 cd/m² bright TFT LCD, can hardly avoid installing APKs or Google services, including the Google Play Store. However, installing Google voids the 1-year manufacturer's warranty for the tablet because, according to Amazon, this constitutes improper use.
