Four Cybertruck units were spotted outside the Tesla Gigafactory in Texas, supposedly waiting for crash testing. Collision safety has been a hot-button topic for the Cybertruck since the stainless steel body and angular design of the electric pickup truck debuted.

Recent images shared online saw Tesla's upcoming pickup truck dressed in a new electric blue camo wrap, but before that, we saw the images that gave us an indication of the Cybertruck's admirable performance in a side roll-over crash test. More recently, though, images of four Cybertrucks were posted to X (fka Twitter) by @JoeTegtmeyer, hanging out around a hangar at Tesla's Texas Gigafactory awaiting crash testing.

The Cybertrucks in question are all covered with tarps, but the angular silhouette is easily recognisable as the electric pickup truck. In the images, equipment congruent with crash testing can be seen — one Cybertruck is already lifted onto a rotisserie (a lift with a spinning platform to allow technicians to get a good look at all angles of the vehicle), while the others are parked in various spots inside and outside the test facility.

Perhaps the most interesting image of the lot depicts a Cybertruck parked in the dirt next to the hangar. The unit in question appears to already have gone through some testing, as it is missing at least part of its front windscreen, and the roof is damaged on the driver's side. This much is visible through the tarp that is covering it, and the damage indicates that it may also have been subject to roll-over testing or perhaps side-impact testing, with the former being more likely than the latter. A full side-impact test would likely cause more visible damage, despite the stainless steel skin.

How well the Cybertruck itself handles the tests remains to be seen, and there are still questions about how the added rigidity of the stainless steel will affect the vehicle in an accident. However, the bigger question around safety comes from how other vehicles and pedestrians will fare in a collision with the Cybertruck, given its sharp edges and large stature.

The other indication of continued safety evaluation of the Cybertruck is affirmation that Tesla is preparing it for imminent release.
