Classic Mini gets £125,000 urban electric makeover with 97 hp FWD motor in David Brown Mini eMastered restomod ↺
Before all the legacy carmakers started churning out electric vehicles in order to keep up with a changing market, electric conversions were a common way to reinvigorate classic cars. Nowadays, these 'restomods' are more meant to be bespoke pieces than practical vehicles. David Brown, an automotive restoration house based out of Silverstone, UK, has entered the realm of electric conversions with the Mini eMastered.
The Mini eMastered retains what made the original Mini an icon — its adorable looks, light weight, and nimble handling characteristics — and modernises the drive train along with the interior and exterior trim. The Mini eMastered's 18.8 kWh battery pack may only deliver 110 miles of range, but its diminutive size means it charges from zero to 100% in just three hours via 6.6 kW AC charging.
At just 640 kg, the Mini eMastered's 97 hp motor and 175 Nm of torque propel it to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds. The electric Mini is, perhaps for the best, electronically limited to a top speed of 92 mph.
Apart from the drive train, David Brown Automotive has also made tweaks to the interior, lighting, and trim. The company replaced many of the chrome bits with polished aluminium, while the interior also received a luxurious leather and aluminium overhaul, replete with air conditioning, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and an LED-illuminated Smiths gauge cluster.
All the added luxury, power, and handmade craftsmanship of the Mini eMastered comes at a price, though. At £125,000 excluding tax (about US$153,600), registration, and shipping, the electrified classic isn't for the feint of heart.
