Tesla Model 3 Performance joins Cybertruck in referral program giveaway
Tesla's referral program brought with it a number of rewards for those who have accrued credits when it relaunched earlier this year. Among the new perks was a sweepstakes to win one of the first production Cybertruck electric pickup trucks for 500 credits. More recently, according to Electrek, Tesla added a sweepstakes that would give buyers the opportunity to win a Model 3 Performance
For 1,000 of their credits, Tesla referral program members can put their name in the hat to win a Model 3 Performance in an October 6 draw. Residents of New York, Florida, and Rhode Island are not eligible for the sweepstakes, but all other U.S. residents are.
Given that this sweepstakes was announced before the Model 3 Highland refresh lands on North American shores, it appears that the Model 3 Performance in question will be a pre-refresh version.
The giveaway was met with criticism on the r/TeslaMotors subreddit, with some commenters accusing the company of using the sweepstakes as a way to get consumers to dump their referral credits into something that doesn't guarantee a reward. How well this theory holds water is unclear, because there's no real way to know how many users cash in their credits for something like a wall connector or another physical good, so it's impossible to compare that lost value to the cost of giving away a Model 3 Performance.
