Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro camera specs and features revealed in full by new leak
For The Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8's camera specs have been an open secret for a while. A new version of Google Camera has also launched for Pixel devices running the Android 14 beta. Now, 91mobiles, in collaboration with Kamila Wojciechowska, have discovered a new promotional video from Google. It highlights some new camera features brought forth by the Pixel 8 duo ahead of its October 4 launch.
One of the most interesting features involves changing facial expressions in photos using Google's on-device AI sorcery. It can identify people in pictures and replace their expressions with a different one, provided it already exists on the device. It also shows off Google's object eraser feature in action with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. For video, there is a new feature called "video boost", which Google claims gives users a "smoother view". Night Sight, the company's low-light photography technology, can also be used with videos.
Additionally, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro users can now get "DSLR-level" controls for videos. The screen is only visible for a fraction of a second and shows off buttons for shutter speed, ISO and focus. Other Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro camera features include Audio Eraser. It identifies ambient noises (city traffic et al.) and intelligently erases them from your videos. Whether or not these features will be available on older Pixels remains to be seen. Even if Google doesn't officially support them, they'll eventually trickle down via GCam ports.
The leak also confirms the camera specifications of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The former will feature a 50 MP (f/1.68 aperture, 82-degree FoV, 1/1.31-inch sensor, 8x Super Res zoom) wide-angle lens and a 12 MP (f/2.2 aperture, 125-degree FoV) ultra-wide-angle sensor. For selfies, there's a 10.5 MP sensor on both devices.
The Pixel 8 Pro keeps the same wide-angle lens but replaces the latter with a 48 MP (f/1.95, 125-degree FoV) module and adds a 48 MP (f/2.8, 21-degree FoV, 5x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom) telephoto lens. This goes against an earlier leak, which stated the ultra-wide-angle lens would use a 64 MP sensor. While not shown in this video, it has been confirmed that the Pixel 8 Pro will also feature an IR thermometer.
