Google Pixel 8a: First images of mid-ranger leak to reveal curved design and thick bezels
Google is lining up to release new flagship Pixel products this autumn. So far, the company has confirmed plans to launch the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, as well as the Pixel Watch 2. Incidentally, 9to5Google recently revealed new details about the latter, which we have covered separately.
As it stages, it appears that Google only intends to unveil these three devices during its October 4 launch event. However, leaker @yabhishekhd has shared four hands-on photos with a Pixel 8a prototype. Embedded below, all photos show the device in a blue colourway, comparable to the Sea option in which the current Pixel 7a is available.
Based on earlier leaks, Google has designed the Pixel 8a with a scaled-back Tensor G3 chipset, plus 8 GB of RAM. While the design of the Pixel 8a is a departure from the Pixel 7a, it aligns with what Google has already shown of the Pixel 8. Hence, the Pixel A series handset has an aggressively curved chassis, along with a full-width camera bar that contains two rear-facing cameras.
With that said, the Pixel 8a has thicker display bezels than the Pixel 8, arguably more so than even the Pixel 7a. Google has given the prototype brushed side rails too, but a glossy, presumably plastic, back panel. Assuming Google maintains its previous release schedule, the Pixel 8a will land next spring during its I/O 2024 conference.
