Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro could be Google's longest-supported Android devices to date

Shortly after leaking the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8's camera specs and features, Kamila Wojciechowska and 91mobiles have teamed up yet again to ruin another one of Google's surprises. This time, it is the mother lode of all leaks- the entire Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 spec sheet. While most of it is already known, it still has a few surprises in store.

Both phones will get seven years' worth of software upgrades. It is worth noting that major software upgrades (subsequent Android releases) could stop after a while, after which the devices will get security updates only. It isn't necessarily bad because the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro's Tensor G3 might not fare very well with new Android builds launched seven years from now.

So far, that is the longest an OEM has ever supported a smartphone, and it sets a precedent for others to follow suit. That said, it might not mean much in the real world because very few people actually hold on to their devices for seven years. Only time will tell if the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are worthy of being daily-driven for seven years straight.

The leak also sheds some interesting policies Google has in place for the Pixel 8 Pro. Its 1 TB variant (coupled with 12 GB RAM) can only be purchased in the US. The rest of the world has to make do with 512 GB at most. The Pixel 8 duo is also support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC, along with 30 W (23 W wireless) fast charging for the Pro and 27 W (18 W wireless) for the non-Pro.
