Poco M8 Pro 5G: Xiaomi’s new midrange smartphone debuts with 6,500 mAh battery and 120 Hz AMOLED display

Xiaomi has launched its next-generation Poco M-series smartphones, the Poco M8 Pro 5G and the Poco M8 5G, globally. The former is a direct successor to last year’s Poco M7 Pro 5G (curr. $282.99 on Amazom.com), bringing significant upgrades in terms of design, processor, and battery. Design-wise, the smartphone is now slightly bigger, thicker, and heavier than before, measuring 8.31 mm (0.32 inches) in thickness and weighing around 205.9 grams (0.45 lbs). By contrast, the predecessor comes in at 7.99 mm (0.31 inches) and 190 grams (0.41 lbs).

This time around, Xiaomi went with a Qualcomm chipset. The Poco M8 Pro 5G is powered by a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal storage. As for display, the smartphone boasts a 6.83-inch CrystalRes AMOLED display that delivers 2772 x 1280p resolution with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The panel has Dolby Vision, HDR10+ support and a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on top, which protects it against accidental falls and scratches. 

Besides that, there’s a dual rear camera setup, consisting of a 50 MP OIS-enabled primary camera paired with an 8 MP ultrawide shooter. Upfront, it has a 32 MP snapper for capturing selfies and video chats. The battery of the smartphone is now bigger than before, featuring a large 6,500 mAh battery with support for 100 W wired and 22.5 W reverse wired charging. 

The rest of the highlights of the Poco M8 Pro 5G include an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, an in-display fingerprint sensor, symmetrical stereo speakers, an IR blaster, NFC support, and an AI feature suite such as Circle to Search with Google, AI Creativity Assistant, and more. 

Available in silver, black, and green colorways, the Poco M8 Pro comes in two memory variants: 8 GB + 256 GB and 12 GB + 512 GB, and they are priced at $299/£299 and $359/£349, respectively.
