According to a new report, Qualcomm could be preparing more Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipsets than previous rumours suggested. As well as 8 Elite Gen 6 and 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro variants, a third manufactured by Samsung Foundry on its 2 nm node is also now on the cards.

Qualcomm is a way off from announcing a next-generation flagship mobile chipset. If recent years are anything to go by, then the company will wait until September or October before replacing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Nonetheless, Digital Chat Station claims to have obtained early information about two chipsets codenamed SM8950 and SM8975.

Previously, the leaker expected Qualcomm to fabricate these chipsets on TSMC N2P nodes. Based on internal analysis, N2P nodes should deliver around an 18% performance uplift over TSMC's N3E node that underpins chipsets like the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy inside the Galaxy S25 Ultra (curr. $1,045 on Amazon) while also reducing power consumption by over a third.

According to Digital Chat Station, TSMC may not be the only foundry that Qualcomm has turned to for its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 generation chipsets. Writing on Weibo, the leaker reports that this generation could feature a Samsung 2 nm variant too.

Apparently, SM8950 and SM8975 variants remain on track as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro backed by N2P nodes. Thus, concrete details about this mysterious Samsung Foundry variant will likely appear later under an entirely different codename. Incidentally, we may see this collaboration between Qualcomm and Samsung Foundry bear fruit this generation with a new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 variant for Samsung's upcoming foldables.
