Oppo has announced a release for the world's first public beta of ColorOS 16. The build represents the first taste of how Android 16 will look and feel on devices such as the OnePlus 13 and its compact sibling the 13T in China, and could also serve as an early hint of what OxygenOS 16 has in store for OnePlus devices worldwide. Other premium devices such as the Find N5 foldable flagship are eligible for the new firmware.

Oppo has now successfully completed its latest round of public beta tester recruitment in China. The participants will have the chance to test the first build of ColorOS 16 (or COS 16) for devices such as the OnePlus 13, not to mention its first-gen compact variant the 13T.

OnePlus' parent company has also made the beta ready for its own current Android flagship, the Find N5. It is joined by its non-foldable Find X8, X8 Pro, X8S, X8S Plus and X8 Ultra in eligibility for this Android 16 preview build.

COS fans in China have suspected that it would upgrade to mimic Apple's new Liquid Glass UI for iPhones that run iOS 26, although Oppo's mobile software design director Chen Xi has recently taken to Weibo to shut that speculation down.

Therefore, COS' global counterpart OxygenOS might also follow its lead when it upgrades to Android 16, a process thought to start with the release of the OnePlus 15 to the rest of the world in early 2026.

The announcement places Oppo as a frontrunner in terms of Android 16 development, in China at least - although Android 16-based ROMs from other brands are backed to join it in beta-testing status throughout the rest of August 2025, however.

They include OriginOS 6 (which could debut with the new X300 series from Oppo's sister brand Vivo); MagicOS 10, which might be first seen running on Honor's Magic8 series, and HyperOS 3, which could be one of many marquee features for the Xiaomi 16 series on its impending launch.
