Honor has only just gotten its latest Android smartphones, the high-end Magic7 Pro and 7 RSR included, onto the global market - however, it now seems that it is the last major launch Zhao Ming (or George Zhao) will see as CEO of the company.
Its board has just accepted the executive's resignation, a decision made for personal reasons that has not been taken lightly, as Zhao has reportedly said himself.
He has led the company since 2015, steering the company through its public split from Huawei and subsequent re-establishment of itself as a prominent personal device OEM, with ambitions to rival others such as Apple (and remain resistant to trends such as camera co-branding) since then.
Honor has acknowledged Zhao's "outstanding contributions" to that process in confirming that his role has been taken over by Jian Li, another executive whose list of former employees include (ironically) Huawei.
The company asserts that it "will continue to deliver innovative products and experiences to consumers around the world" under this new leadership.
Meanwhile, Honor has also released a new update of MagicOS 9.0 to mark the Lunar New Year in China. It supports the OEM's new anti-travel sickness display feature as well as special Spring Festival photo watermarks and lockscreens, along with telephoto lens enhancements for compatible smartphones.
The update is exclusive to a relatively select number of smartphones, however, although they include all members of the Magic7, Magic6, Magic5, Honor 300 (the new Ultra variant included) and Honor 200 series.
