Honor CEO Zhao Ming has officially confirmed to MyDrivers that the Honor Magic6 series can communicate via satellite, similar to the Apple iPhone 15 (approx. 900 euros on Amazon). However, while Apple has planned this feature primarily for emergency calls, Honor wants to take a big step further and allow users to send text messages to friends and even make phone calls away from the mobile network.
Zhao Ming emphasized that Honor developed the technology in-house rather than using MediaTek's satellite chip. Honor claims to offer both the most stable signal and the most energy-efficient satellite connection on the market. Satellite emergency calls are also a priority for Honor, as the CEO emphasizes that this feature can be particularly important in emergencies at sea, in the desert, or during earthquakes. However, the company has not yet confirmed whether the satellite functionality will be limited to China, as is the case with Huawei, or whether customers from other countries will benefit from the satellite connection.
The top model of the Honor Magic6 series, which could be marketed as Magic6 Pro or Magic6 Ultimate, is also set to receive exciting upgrades beyond the satellite connection, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with a sensor in 1/1.5-inch format, which means that the telephoto camera not only has a higher resolution than all competitors but also a larger sensor. The launch is expected early next year.
