OnePlus 12: Official teasers start with camera specifications and design details before December release
OnePlus has released a boatload of OnePlus 12 teasers, less than 48 hours before Xiaomi introduces the Redmi K70 series. While Xiaomi is containing all Redmi K70-related content to Chinese social media, OnePlus has unveiled details about its next flagship globally. As expected, the OnePlus 12 builds on its predecessor's design by combining elements from the OnePlus Open.
Specifically, OnePlus has repositioned the LED flash array outside the main camera housing, which now sits within a section that wraps into the OnePlus 12's mid-frame like on the OnePlus 11 (curr. US$629.99 on Amazon). Based on the images that OnePlus has released so far, the OnePlus 12 will contain the following rear-facing camera hardware, plus a centrally-mounted front-facing camera:
- Primary: f/1.6 and 23 mm
- Ultra-wide-angle: f/2.2 and 14 mm
- Telephoto: f/2.6 and 70 mm
In short, these specifications for the device's telephoto and ultra-wide-angle cameras match the equivalent cameras in the OnePlus Open, which are 64 MP and 48 MP sensors, respectively. The OnePlus 12 is also expected to utilise the Sony LYT-T808 that OnePlus used as the Open's primary camera. Given that the latter has an f/1.7 aperture and a 24 mm equivalent focal length, we suspect that OnePlus and Sony have made some lens tweaks to achieve a wider aperture and equivalent focal length.
Moreover, OnePlus has outlined that its next flagship will be available with up to 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1 TB of UFS 4.0 flash storage, matching the Redmi K70 Pro. The OnePlus 12 will debut on December 5 at 06:30 UTC. Currently, the company has not explicitly confirmed a global release date yet. However, the terms of its global competition to win a OnePlus 12 imply that the device will launch outside its home market on January 24.
