Anbernic is now selling the RG35XX Plus, a new retro gaming handheld with a 3.5-inch and 4:3 IPS display. The Anbernic RG35XX Plus contains various upgrades from the RG35XX, including 4x more RAM and a more powerful chipset.

Anbernic has now released the RG35XX Plus, a successor of sorts to the RG35XX (curr. US$60.79 on Amazon). For reference, the RG35XX Plus is roughly the same size as the regular RG35XX. While the pair are 117 mm tall and 81 mm wide, the former is slightly thicker than the latter at 22 mm versus 20 mm on account of a larger battery. As a result, the RG35XX Plus is heavier than the RG35XX too, but only by 21 g at 186 g.

As we have discussed previously, Anbernic has improved upon the RG35XX by switching out its ARM Cortex-A9 and PowerVR SGX544MP-based SoC. In comparison, the RG35XX Plus utilises the Allwinner H700, which integrates four Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at 1.5 GHz, as well as a dual-core Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. Additionally, the RG35XX Plus features a four-fold RAM increase, with Anbernic including 1 GB of DDR4 RAM rather than the 256 MB DDR3 equivalent it uses in the RG35XX. Moreover, the RG35XX Plus contains a 27% larger battery capacity than the RG35XX (3,300 mAh).

Unfortunately, Anbernic has elected against offering dual-boot capabilities by default. Instead, the RG35XX Plus ships with Linux like the original RG35XX. The RG35XX Plus retains its predecessor's IPS display too, which spans 3.5-inches and operates at 640 x 480 pixels. The Anbernic RG35XX is now orderable for US$57.99 in three colour options with a 64 GB MicroSD card. Alternatively, the gaming handheld can be picked up for US$72.99 with 64 GB and 128 GB MicroSD cards for its two MicroSD card slots. Please see Anbernic's website for more details.
