iF Design has revealed initial details about the PD49, a forthcoming curved gaming monitor created in collaboration with AOC and Porsche Design. For reference, over a year has passed since their pair's last joint effort, a 27-inch IPS monitor sold under as the AGON Pro PD27S. According to iF Design, the pair's goal with the PD49 was as follows:
...to develop a professional mainstream gaming monitor for hardcore gamers that can also be used for other purposes such as for home office. The product solves all hardware requirements and problems of an ambitious gamer, it is high quality, exclusive and reliable. The 49-inch monitor is inspired by the design of the 911 and convinces not only with its excellent design, but also with its excellent hardware
To that end, the AOC PD49 is said to combine a 5K resolution and a 240 Hz refresh rate. For clarity, the latter likely refers to 5,120 x 1,440, a resolution commonly listed as 5K. As TFT Central notes, the 32:9 panel may have a 1000R curvature, although iF Design does not mention this in its promotional material. Additionally, the latter describes the AOC PD49 as utilising a VA panel.
However, TFT Central has found conflicting evidence on the National Radio Research Agency (NRRA), a South Korea-based certification agency. For some reason, the NRRA has certified the PD49 as an OLED monitor, which TFT Central theorises would be a QD-OLED and Samsung Display-derived panel on account of its size and specifications. In other words, the AOC PD49 may use the same panel found in the RedMagic Realm, which also delivers over 1,000 nits peak brightness with the same resolution and refresh rate.
