GKD Pixel: Anbernic RG Nano rival showcased fully ahead of release
Retro CN has revealed that has GKD Pixel samples, over two months after the retailer began teasing the retro gaming handheld. Initially, Retro CN were careful about what elements of the GKD Pixel it would show. As we discussed at the time, the retailer detailed the device's back panel, confirming that the GKD Pixel would utilise an aluminium shell in the process. Additionally, Retro CN provided a brief shot of the gaming handheld's display in which it compared the GKD Pixel against the Anbernic RG Nano.
Now, Retro CN has shared several short gameplay videos, as well as full pictures of the GKD Pixel's front and back panels. While the retailer has not explained why it elected against showing the former previously, Retro Dodo theorises that GKD had not finalised the device's button design. In short, the GKD Pixel matches the Anbernic RG Nano in this regard, albeit with noticeably larger buttons and a more comfortable d-pad.
Moreover, the GKD Pixel is expected to arrive with a 2-inch and 4:3 display, which should scale and be eminently more usable than the 1.5-inch and 1:1 equivalent in Anbernic's model. According to Retro Dodo, the IPS panel will output at 320 x 240 pixels and will be powered by a 1,500 mAh battery compared to the 1,050 mAh cell in the RG Nano (curr. $69.99 on Amazon). Unfortunately, the GKD Pixel will lack Wi-Fi connectivity though and will ship with the company's customised Linux firmware. Neither GKD nor Retro CN have confirmed pricing and availability yet, but the latter previously estimated that the Pixel would retail for about CNY 400 (~US$56).
