The Honor X50 has come third in Canalys' latest smartphone shipment tracker for 3Q2024 with 2.8% of the total Chinese market, beating the iPhone 16 Pro Max to that spot.
The iPhone might be ~7 times the X50's starting price in that country at the time of writing; then again, that might be part of the reason the latter proved more attractive in the latest rankings.
In addition, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1-powered device also debuted as the first smartphone of improved Honor Taichi durability, with SGS-certified "five-star drop resistance rating" for its curved glass body and 120Hz 1.5K AMOLED display.
The X50 also beat other, more premium handsets such as the Redmi K70 Ultra (also available as the Xiaomi 14T Pro on Amazon), which took 7th place (with 2.3% market share) in the new report.
Huawei has been putting a lot into building its market share back up in China in recent years, yet had just 1 entry in this new top 10 list. Then again, the Pura 70 (#6) is a member of the OEM's more recent flagship line.
Vivo came in at 10th with the Y37 while Oppo forged ahead all the way to 4th place with the A3x: both decidedly budget devices.
Nevertheless, the top spot ultimately went to Apple and its iPhone 15 Pro Max (which accounted for 3% of all shipments in China), while the 15 Pro and vanilla 15 hung on in there at #8 and #9 respectively, and the 16 Pro completed the list at #5.
