For those interested in a foldable smartphone with a focus on performance, high-quality workmanship and high endurance, Xiaomi's Mix Flip 2 sets a benchmark in the flip segment. Equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite the premium foldable from Xiaomi (prices start at 870 euros for import) is currently the fastest flip phone, which impresses with an extra-long battery life in our review. The Xiaomi smartphone's battery lasts for almost 20 hours, which should be sufficient even for days of intensive use without having a recharge option.
Anyone who fears that the 6.86-inch folding screen will have a negative impact on everyday use will be pleasantly surprised by the Mix Flip 2. Although the crease of the inner display is still noticeable, however, the folded area hardly disturbs everyday use.
Flip smartphones may become thinner in the future for success
While the Mix Flip 2 convince us in many areas, the design when the phone is folded remains a point of criticism. Especially in comparison to the increasingly thinner Fold models, the Xiaomi phone appears thick and bulky. Although, the competing flip models on market have also no thinner design. At almost 16 millimeters, the Xiaomi Mix Flip 3 is not nearly as slim and handy as a Vivo X Fold 5 or Oppo Find N5.
What potential buyers should be considered before making a purchase: The fact, that the Mix Flip 2 is still China-only so far means for users a limited language selection, no eSIM support and uncertainties regarding the update support. However, a global version should benefit from the EU directive and updates until at least 2031 - at least for Europe.
