OPPO Reno12 Pro debuts as series-first Gorilla Glass, IP65 and dual 50MP rear camera Android smartphone
The Reno 12-series' ever-present 6.7-inch HDR+ display might hit a better bezel-reducing note with its switch to a "quad-curved" display type. It keeps the borders more constant compared to some of its predecessors, and has a 50MP selfie camera peeping through its central punch-hole.
This new 120Hz AMOLED panel even has Gorilla Glass, which is unusually premium for these mid-rangers (even if OPPO is slightly shifty on the subject of how new it is). Then again, the new Reno display is also FHD+ and has a max brightness rating of 1,200 nits.
It is installed on the vanilla 12 as well as the 12 Pro, at least, although it is driven by the refreshed Dimensity 8250 in the former. The latter, on the other hand, has been revealed as running on the former flagship 9200+.
The Reno12 series has 50MP main cameras across the board, although, again, only the Pro version has the Sony IMX890 that used to belong to OPPO's top-end Find X line, while the vanilla model makes do with the LYT600. Nevertheless, both devices have the same 50MP telephoto lens and 8MP wide-angle lens.
They also upgrade to a new flat-edged chassis that is as thin as 7.25 millimeters (mm) in the Reno12: seemingly fragile, yet reinforced with official IP65 splash protection. Nevertheless, 5,000mAh batteries fit into these updated smartphones, although their wired charging speeds still top out at 80W.
The new Reno phones have also launched as the first "AI Phones" of their line to boast features such as their own version of Best Take and Magic Eraser as well as others such as live transcription and assistance.
The Reno12 and 12 Pro also boast Bluetooth 5.4, infrared (IR) blasters and up to 16GB of RAM. Nevertheless, they cost no more than 3,199 yuan (~$442) for the former and 3,699 yuan (~$552) for the latter. Hopefully, these smartphones with their well-recycled build will join the Reno11 on the global market soon.
