Xperia 10 VI: Sony rumoured to be planning twin camera upgrades for new Xperia 10 smartphone
Sony is expected to formally introduce the Xperia 10 VI in a week's time, roughly a year after it announced the Xperia 10 V (curr. $339 on Amazon). As with the Xperia 1 VI, Sony has been unable to keep what it has in store for its next mid-range smartphone. In short, not only have promotional images of the Xperia 10 VI surfaced online, but so has its chipset via a recent Geekbench listing.
Additionally, camera specifications for the same device have now turned up online. Like the switch from a Snapdragon 695 to a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, it seems that Sony is planning to distinguish the Xperia 10 V from the Xperia 10 VI with more powerful hardware. Allegedly, Sony has equipped the Xperia 10 VI with Sony LYT500 and LYT600 sensors as its ultra-wide-angle and primary cameras, respectively. For reference, the LYT600 has a 1/2-inch optical format like the IMX582 inside the Xperia 10 V, albeit with a 50 MP peak output compared to 48 MP for the IMX582.
Still, the LYT600 should deliver an improved feature set and image quality in some areas, in part thanks to the superior image signal processor (ISP) inside the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1. By contrast, the 50 MP LYT500 will surpass the Xperia 10 V's 8 MP SK Hynix equivalent in multiple areas, not least with its 1/2.9-inch optical format. While we cannot yet confirm the authenticity of this leaked camera information, it is already evident that the Xperia 10 VI will feature two rear-facing cameras, one fewer than its predecessor.
