Sharp announces Aquos R9 with 240 Hz OLED and Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3
Sharp just listed a couple of new smartphones on its Japanese website, including the higher-end Aquos R9. The star of the show is undoubtedly its 6.5-inch OLED display with a maximum refresh rate of 240 Hz, a figure that beats most gaming phones on the market (RedMagic 9 Pro curr. $749 on Amazon). Other specs of the panel include a resolution of 2,340 × 1,080 and a peak brightness of 1,500 nits.
The handset comes equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 SoC cooled by a large vapor chamber, along with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Moreover, the phone is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery, and it supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC.
Sharp once again collaborated with Leica on the camera system, with the Aquos R9 featuring a total of three 50-megapixel sensors — a 1/1.55-inch main one paired with an OIS lens, a 122-degree ultrawide, as well as the selfie camera, which is housed in a punch-hole cutout.
Other features include a microSD card slot, eSIM compatibility, IP68 dust and water resistance, and stereo speakers.
Sharp plans to start selling the Aquos R9 in mid-July in Japan, with Taiwan, Indonesia, and Singapore following soon after. It will be available in two colorways — white and green, but pricing remains unknown.
