Rugged smartphone with restrained design: Sharp Aquos wish4 withstands drops and contact with water - and is not as bulky as its counterparts
Sharp is launching a new smartphone on the market. The Aquos wish4 is advertised mainly with its display, which is said to be particularly robust. This refers to MIL-STD-810H certification, according to which the display should remain undamaged if dropped from 1.22 meters onto concrete. The smartphone is also protected against damage caused by dust and water ingress and can be cleaned with soap or alcohol. The smartphone should also meet the requirements of IPX5, IPX8 and IP6X certifications.
The 6.6-inch display has a fairly low resolution of 1612 x 720 pixels. The other features are also not too strong. It comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 700 - a SoC with limited performance, and four gigabytes of RAM, that is no longer necessarily the standard for smartphones in 2024. However, the extent to which this results in severe limitations in usability depends heavily on the usage scenario. Android 14 is pre-installed on the 64-gigabyte internal memory.
The main camera has a resolution of 50 megapixels, and the front camera has 8 megapixels and can be used to unlock the smartphone. Fast, biometric login is possible with the fingerprint sensor. NFC is available, Bluetooth 5.3, and WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac are supported. The Aquos wish4 from Sharp is set to be launched at the beginning of July 2024. Currently, there is only talk of a market launch in Japan.
