Lenovo's Gaming Laptop Legion 5 15 G6 convinces with Ryzen CPU and the fastest RTX 3060

Teaser
Thanks to the combination of the AMD Ryzen 7 CPU and the very powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, Lenovo's Legion 5 15 offers plenty of performance. Gamers will also appreciate the responsive 165 Hz display and multi-zone keyboard illumination, but there are no additional gaming features.

Lenovo's regular Legion lineup offers gaming laptops for a comparatively low price. The manufacturer does not implements gadgets like comprehensive illumination elements, but focuses on the performance with fast components instead. This is also the case for the new Legion 5 15 G6, because the fast Ryzen 7 5800H is combined with the GeForce RTX 3060 from Nvidia. It is also the fastest version of the RTX 3060 with a TGP of up to 130W, so even laptops with "slower" versions of the RTX 3070 are beaten. The performance utilization is very good during gaming and pure CPU load, and you do not have to worry about performance drops even in demanding situations.

Lenovo also uses a good display. There is an option for a WQHD model and 165 Hz, but the 1080p screen we have in our unit (also 165 Hz) left a good impression during the review. The 1080p resolution is also a good fit for the CPU/GPU combination and even demanding titles run smoothly at the highest settings.

Lenovo implements different performance modes, which are useful. If you want the highest performance possible, however, you have to live with loud fans so headphones are basically a must during gaming. The fans are unfortunately always running, even in Eco mode while idling. We would have liked to see a mode where the fans are completely turned off.

The automatic graphics switching is problematic, because there is a noticeable freeze when the system switches between the GPUs. The system will run smooth after you deactivate the hybrid mode (requires a restart) in Lenovo's own Vantage app. This on the other hand increases power consumption and reduces battery runtimes. Lenovo should have another look at the situation.

The Legion 5 15 G6 still gets our recommendation, because you will have a hard time finding a gaming laptop with a better price-performance ratio. Please see our comprehensive review of the Legion 5 15 G6 for more information:
