Insider leaks The Elder Scrolls 6 release date as 2028-29, despite Xbox prioritizing game

Bethesda’s Skyrim successor appears to have escaped the latest Xbox layoffs. Even so, despite the publisher concentrating on its successful IPs, The Elder Scrolls 6 release date may be far off. During a Bloomberg Q&A, reliable insider Jason Schreier warned listeners not to expect the game for at least 2-3 years.
Schreier believes that the earliest the Bethesda project will debut is 2028. However, it’s possible that it may not arrive until 2029 or later. That timeline matches the prediction of Jez Corden of Windows Central. His May podcast leak claimed that the open-world RPG was “still quite far away.”
With Skyrim launching in 2011, the wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 release date has tested the most patient gamers. Following its brief 2018 trailer, players still haven’t seen gameplay or screenshots. Executive Producer Todd Howard tried to reassure fans in March, revealing that multiple playable builds exist.
Microsoft is also anxious to see TES6
Other critics blame Starfield for the delay, with the formerly exclusive Xbox game occupying the studio. Microsoft may also be antsy, seeking greater output from its most popular franchises, including TES, Fallout and Halo. Yet, there is no evidence that CEO Asha Sharma’s operation will rush TES6 out before it’s ready.
The good news is that the instability at Microsoft shouldn’t impact the title. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the ZeniMax MMO The Elder Scrolls Online. Bethesda’s parent company suffered significant job losses, raising doubts about future content. Bethesda Softworks studio and Doom-maker, id Software, also reportedly lost around half its staff.
When The Elder Scrolls 6 finally surfaces, it could ship as an Xbox exclusive. 2028 or 2029 puts it firmly in the Project Helix era, with signs that the new console will benefit from unique software. Gears of War: E-Day will be available only on the PC and Series X/S, and Microsoft plans to reserve more first-party titles for its hardware.
