Deal | „Simple Retro Slasher“ (91% positive) drops below $3 on Steam

The original Shadow Warrior was released by 3D Realms in 1997 and runs on the same Build engine as Duke Nukem 3D. The 2013 reimagining lets players once again hack, slash and shoot their way through hordes of demons and bloody arena battles, this time with modern presentation and a much more forceful combat system. The Steam Deck Verified title is currently 90% off, reducing the regular price from $29.99 to $2.99, though only until July 9, at 10:00 a.m. PDT. According to SteamDB, this matches the game’s all-time low.
Once again, the focus is on Lo Wang, a loud-mouthed mercenary working for Zilla Enterprise. He is actually supposed to retrieve a legendary sword, but after a betrayal, he ends up dealing with demons and ancient gods. In gameplay terms, Shadow Warrior is a fast-paced first-person shooter with a strong melee focus. Revolvers, shotguns and rocket launchers are available, but the katana is the real highlight, joined by a range of magical abilities.

German gaming magazine PC Games describes Shadow Warrior as a “Simple Retro Slasher” and especially praises its fast, brutal combat system and well-executed retro feel without too much modern baggage. Overall, however, the game only scored 7 out of 10. The main criticisms: Shadow Warrior stretches its campaign too much, repeatedly reusing arena battles, enemy types and environments as the game progresses, which causes it to lose momentum. On Steam, however, the title is very well received, with 91% positive ratings from more than 26,000 reviews. For fans of straightforward old-school shooters, the current all-time low could be worth a look.
