Following feedback received after an earlier announcement of the Mini40 handheld, MagicX has made key changes to the spec sheet. It has also provided a first look and revealed the colors it will be available in.

A few days ago MagicX announced the Mini40 as a potential new handheld that will succeed the discontinued Mini Zero28 (available on Amazon for $89.99). The announcement came with a poll to get feedback from users ahead of development. Following the results of the poll and multiple suggestions, MagicX has now revealed the Mini40 will come with new specs. It has also shared official renders of the handheld.

According to a post on its Discord channel, a recurring point from the feedback received was the choice of the processor powering the Mini40. In its first announcement, the Mini40 was revealed to be powered by the Rockchip RK3566. However, following the feedback, MagicX has made the decision to ditch the RK3566. The handheld will now be available in two processor variants.

There will be a $79 version with a Rockchip R3572 processor and 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The second and cheaper version will cost $59 and will have an Allwinner A333 processor paired with 1GB of DDR3 RAM. Save for these two differences, the rest of the specs are the same.

This means, regardless of the version, the MagicX Mini40 will have a 4-inch 800 × 480 display, dual speakers, dual microSD card slots, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and a vibration motor. Both versions will ship with Linux.

Despite the modified spec sheet, MagicX is still running a poll to determine if buyers are interested in both versions of the handheld or just one. So, despite the Mini40 technically having two variants, there's a chance only one of them will be made based on the results of the poll.

MagicX has also revealed official product renders, and they reveal that the Mini40 will be available in Black, Orange, Translucent Green, and Translucent Magenta. However, MagicX is running a poll to find out which colors will be prioritized for production first. In addition, the renders show the Mini40 will have symmetrical recessed thumbsticks and in-line shoulder buttons. Unfortunately, no date has been announced for when the Mini40 will be released.
