Ayaneo's new handheld may be based on the Game Boy Advance

Following the launch of the Pocket Micro 2, Ayaneo had another product sharing session last week, during which it announced its plans for the second half of the year. The Chinese handheld manufacturer revealed that it has two new devices, one of which is a Windows handheld. The other is a Konkr-branded device that is said to be a “reimagining” of a classic handheld.

Ayaneo isn't new to remaking classic handhelds. The Pocket DMG is a modern take on the Nintendo Game Boy, while the Pocket Micro series is its reinvention of the Game Boy Micro. Ayaneo has shared a new teaser for the upcoming Konkr device, and it hints at the classic handheld it will be based on.

The teaser image, which was shared on its social media platforms, shows the outline of the top of the unnamed Konkr handheld, and if you superimpose it with an image of the Game Boy Advance, you'd see that they match. Thus, confirming that the new Konkr handheld will have a similar design to the original Game Boy Advance released in 2001.

Since this is a modern recreation of the Nintendo handheld, it is expected to have a larger higher resolution display with a 3:2 aspect ratio. It should also have a significantly powerful processor, modern controls, a larger battery capacity, and of course the ability to emulate games made for the Game Boy Advance as well as other retro consoles. We also won't rule out the possibility of Ayaneo launching the Konkr handheld in some of the same classic colors as the original Game Boy Advance such as Indigo, Black, and Orange.

There's still no date yet for the announcement, but more details are expected to surface as the launch draws close. In addition to this new handheld, Ayaneo also has a vertical handheld on the way that will launch as the Konkr Pocket Block. It remains to be seen whether the two devices will be released together. Whatever decision Ayaneo makes, we hope there are enough units available, so that there won't be a repeat of the Pocket Micro 2's extremely limited availability.
