Deal | 94% positive shooter hidden gem is just $2.49 on Steam right now

In Hidden & Dangerous 2, players take on the role of soldiers from the British Special Air Service (SAS), carrying out secret missions deep behind enemy lines during World War II. Instead of spectacular front-line battles, the focus is on sabotage, espionage, hostage rescues and covert operations. The campaign takes players to Norway, North Africa, France, Burma, Austria and the former Czechoslovakia, among other locations. On Steam, Hidden & Dangerous 2 normally costs just under $10, but a 75% discount brings the price down to $2.49 through July 9. According to SteamDB, the current deal matches the usual best-price level, which was last reached in mid-March.
In terms of gameplay, Hidden & Dangerous 2 differs significantly from classic World War II shooters. Before each mission, players assemble and individually equip an SAS team of up to four soldiers. During missions, they can switch between team members at any time. Patience is often more important than marksmanship: enemies react to sounds, discover bodies and raise the alarm as soon as something suspicious happens. Depending on the situation, players sneak through enemy camps, use captured uniforms for camouflage, pick locks, plant explosives or, as a last resort, reach for rifles and grenades. Open firefights, however, are usually the riskiest option.
To this day, Hidden & Dangerous 2 is considered a true hidden gem among tactical shooter fans. Czech studio Illusion Softworks released the game in October 2003 – just a few days before the first Call of Duty. That may be one reason why it flew under the radar for many players. It certainly was not because of the reviews: Eurogamer awarded it a strong 9 out of 10, praising its dense World War II atmosphere, flexible gameplay and varied campaign. Criticism was aimed at the weak AI, complex controls and very high difficulty level.
The Steam community’s verdict is even stronger: 94% of nearly 1,000 user reviews are positive. Only on Metacritic does the picture look slightly weaker, with a Metascore of 75 and a User Score of 8.4. On Steam Deck, the shooter is rated “Playable.”
