Opportunity AMD will potentially fumble: Leaker confirms Nvidia GeForce RTX 60 release timeline

We have been hearing about the release timeline of the next-gen AMD and Nvidia GPUs for a while now. It is now clear that we approaching the end of the current-gen GPU lifecycle, as AMD is expected to release the RDNA 5 gaming GPUs in 2027. However, the news has been quite disappointing when it comes to the GeForce RTX 60 series cards.
Rather than initiate a full-blown next-gen RTX 60 series launch, Nvidia is reportedly planning to release the RTX 50 Super series cards in 2027. One of Moore’s Law Is Dead’s Nvidia source told the leaker that they don’t think the RTX 60 series GPUs are coming out in 2027. This lines up with previous reports about Nvidia delaying the next-gen GeForce GPUs to 2028.
So, in 2027, Nvidia is likely to rely on the RTX 50 Super series to hold gamers off until the RTX 60 series comes out. The RTX 50 Super series boards are expected to mainly bring more VRAM and a modest increase in performance. If leaks are to be believed, these won’t be enough to compete with the RDNA 5 desktop GPUs which reportedly bring substantial performamce gains over the RDNA 4 cards like the RX 9070 (available on Amazon).
The case for the release of the RDNA 5 Radeon cards in 2027 is made strong by the expected 2027 release of the Xbox Helix and Sony PlayStation 6, both of which will use next-gen AMD GPUs.
So, if the RTX 60 series cards have been pushed to 2028 and AMD is launching the RDNA 5 boards in 2027, AMD has a real shot at snatching some marketshare away from Nvidia by launching high-performing GPUs at reasonable prices, something that Team Red did do with the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT.
This is especially true for the flagship/high-end segment where Nvidia’s current offerings like the RTX 5070 Ti are horribly overpriced due to throttled supply. This will likely also remain true for the next-gen RTX 60 series too as Nvidia is unlikely to move away from the fat profits that AI promises.
But, this is AMD we are talking about who might find a way to fumble this opportunity when it presents itself. Only time will tell how much better Team Red will be prepared to take advantage of the situation.
