PS6 disc drive is dead, but there may still be hope for Project Helix

Sony may have killed physical discs for its consoles, but there may be some hope for the next Xbox console. New information has surfaced suggesting Microsoft is not fully sold on a disc-less future just yet. With the mass layoffs and major restructuring announced by CEO Asha Sharma, this may be a strong point for Xbox’s wounded business.
During the latest Xbox Two Podcast episode, insider Jez Corden spoke about Project Helix and Sony’s decision to go disc-less (time-stamped below). Corden stated his latest information about the next Xbox console was that it will not come with a disc drive. Then, the insider cited The Verge’s Tom Warren’s report from last week claiming Microsoft is still evaluating, and went on to state that after checking with his sources, that might actually be the case.
So, I went and tried to update my information, and it does seem like indeed – they are trying to figure out what they can do here, before they fully commit to the death of physical dics (referring to an inside joke)
Both Jez and his co-host believe that this could be a way for Xbox to regain its glory by sticking with what the community wants and continuing the tradition of physical discs. However, Corden did state that there is very little chance that Project Helix will have a disc drive, at least natively, considering the digital vs physical market share and the added expenses of being the only one committed to discs.
As it stands now, Sony has pretty much guaranteed that the PS6 will not come with a disc drive, at least not natively. The decision has garnered major backlash, with a lot of fans denouncing the company and the upcoming console.
