Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, one of the top contenders for the 2025 Game of the Year award, is discounted by 60% for the first time. The open-world RPG dispenses with dragons, magic, and fantasy, instead opting for a medieval setting that is as believable as possible. As part of the Steam Summer Sale, the role-playing game is available for $23.99 until July 9.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 takes players to 15th-century Bohemia, where they once again step into the role of Henry, the blacksmith’s son. After the events of the first game, Henry sets out with his friend and comrade-in-arms Hans Capon to deliver an important message to a distant fortress – but the journey soon spirals completely out of control.

Instead of a classic fantasy world full of magic and monsters, players enter a historically inspired open world of cities, castles, forests and villages whose inhabitants go about their everyday lives. Decisions affect reputation, relationships and the course of many quests, making the game world feel unusually believable. This realism runs through nearly all of the game’s mechanics. Combat requires precise timing, good equipment and patience rather than frantic button-mashing. Henry also has to sleep, eat, maintain his equipment and ideally wash regularly – otherwise, villagers will quickly mistake him for a vagrant and prefer to keep their distance.

In terms of gameplay, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 offers remarkable freedom. Many tasks can be solved in very different ways – through diplomacy, stealth or brute force, for example. One anecdote from the author illustrates this well: a tavern keeper is being harassed by a group of ruffians and asks Henry to take out their leader. As proof, he only wants the ringleader’s distinctive hat. There are several ways to get it: sneak into the camp at night and poison their breakfast, stab the bandits in their sleep, march in wearing full armor and cut them all down – or simply steal the hat. After all, the innkeeper has no way of knowing whether the bandits are actually dead.

German gaming magazine GamePro also praised the open-ended quest design in its review, calling it one of the game’s greatest strengths. The review also highlights the dense medieval atmosphere, lovingly detailed game world, motivating progression system and strong sense of immersion. However, the reviewers criticized the main story, which often feels less gripping and somewhat sluggish compared to the strong side quests. The occasionally fiddly controls and demanding introduction were also less well received. In the end, the editorial team still awarded the game a strong 87 out of 100 points.

The Steam community’s verdict is even more positive: 93% of over 187,000 user reviews recommend Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Metacritic lists a Metascore of 89 and a User Score of 8.7. On the Steam Deck, the RPG is rated “Playable.”

New all-time low thanks to the Summer Sale

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was released in February 2025 and normally costs around $60 on Steam. According to SteamDB, the Summer Sale has pushed Warhorse Studios’ RPG down to a new all-time low: with a 60% discount, the price is now $23.99. Previous discounts were capped at 50%, most recently at the end of May.
