Fallout remasters and The Elder Scrolls 6 release dates reportedly still far off

New Xbox CSO Matthew Ball recently said the company would focus on “reviving storied franchises.” Fallout isn’t extinct, but some fans have grown tired of waiting for rumored remasters. Meanwhile, there is still no definitive The Elder Scrolls 6 release date, as the follow-up to the 2011 Skyrim. Unfortunately, an insider provided a disappointing update for fresh entries in both series.
Xbox games on the slow track
Windows Central’s Jez Corden addressed the Bethesda games on the latest XB2 podcast. When discussing priorities for Xbox, Corden explained that he heard:
Fallout remasters are probably a little bit further off than people think, and Elder Scrolls 6 is still quite far away. I suppose that getting some of those games out more quickly is probably something they're probably very thinking is top of mind for them.
The insider thinks that 2027 is realistic for at least one Fallout remaster release date. The Elder Scrolls 6 could then follow in 2028 or 2029.
His comments align with other leaks about the Bethesda projects. Yet, gamers may not see a barrage of new games in the span of a few years. The most likely first arrival is a modernized Fallout 3.
The infamous 2023 remaster leak
Microsoft’s 2023 FTC case revealed the existence of Oblivion Remastered and a return of the third Fallout. The former title shipped in April 2025, raising expectations for its counterpart to resurface.
Many fans are more excited about a Fallout: New Vegas refresh. With obvious connections to the successful TV show, Corden previously reported that it was in development. Sadly, it could be years before it sees the light of day. Also problematic, an original writer and designer for the game, Chris Avellone, hinted that Bethesda lacked the critical source code.
Fallout 5 is inevitable as the next mainline entry, but not until after The Elder Scrolls 6 release date. In January, Bethesda Studios director Todd Howard confirmed that developers were concentrating on TES6. Frustrating Skyrim supporters, it’s questionable if footage of the open-world RPG will premiere at any June event.
