Fallout co-creator Tim Cain says his YouTube channel is nearing its end, as he has run out of topics after three years of sharing industry stories and development advice. In the same update, Cain suggested he may build one final game before retiring again, while noting he doesn’t want to create another Fallout entry or a new IP that enriches others.

Tim Cain, one of the co-creators of the Fallout series who helped bring the classic RPG to life back in 1997, has spent years sharing game development insights on his YouTube channel. However, it seems that he’s slowly winding down, as he feels he’s covered the bulk of what he wanted to share with developers and gamers.

In his latest video on the third anniversary of his YouTube channel, Tim Cain said, “I do seem to be winding down my list of topics. I want to point out, the channel is probably nearing the point where I see it being done. I think I’ve explained to you the game industry as much as I can.”

He continued, “I’ve told all my stories, the fun ones and the not-so-fun ones, and you’ve heard it all.”

While speaking in the same breath, he dropped a little hint about what’s coming up ahead. It seems that Tim Cain might go all out on one last game before officially retiring. In the video, he said:

“I think I’m gonna make one more game before I retire again for the second time, but who knows.”

Earlier in 2026, he became increasingly direct about his feelings toward the video game industry in general and about taking creative risks, stating, “I’m over making other people really wealthy with my own creations.”

Back to Obsidian Entertainment again

This development comes after Cain started working full-time at Obsidian Entertainment last year. Previously, he had been in a semi-retirement phase in 2020, when he’d continue contract work from home while committing to consultancy work on The Outer Worlds 2 at his own pace.

By December of 2025, he moved back to Southern California, joined the studio full-time, and started working in person at Obsidian. These days, he’s quite tight-lipped about what he’s working on, citing NDAs, but it’s quite possible that he’s working on a brand-new RPG in the vein of past blockbuster titles like The Outer Worlds or Pillars of Eternity.

However, Tim has made it clear that his next hypothetical project would not be a Fallout game or a new IP that could become someone else’s next cash cow.
