Bethesda details global launch for DOOM: The Dark Ages – Revelations

Bethesda Softworks and id Software revealed the first major campaign expansion for DOOM: The Dark Ages. Titled "Revelations," the downloadable content pack launches on July 7, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The expansion introduces a single-player campaign estimated at 10 to 12 hours, with pacing split between 60 percent core story progression and 40 percent endgame material. The developer states that this runtime makes the package larger than both of DOOM Eternal's post-launch expansions combined.
Global launch details
The global launch targets a simultaneous release across digital storefronts. PC players can access the game via Steam, while console players can access the game via the PlayStation Store and Xbox Marketplace. Pre-loading allows users to cache asset files early. The launch patch includes targeted performance optimizations to support high-intensity combat scenes, including newly added support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to deliver crisper image quality on the PlayStation 5 Pro. The download requires a standard installation footprint, letting players jump straight into the action the moment servers go live.
Gameplay and design
The central update focuses on the Chain Spear, a versatile weapon designed to modify the base game's grounded combat style by introducing fast-paced mobility loops. The tip fires outward on a physical chain, operating as a grappling hook that pulls the Slayer toward targets or propels him through the environment. The weapon integrates specific dash mechanics while functioning on an independent upgrade tree. Players spend harvested resources to unlock status effects and attributes.
The DLC structures its six levels around an interconnected hub environment called Purgatory. The layout uses a Metroidvania-style design, requiring players to backtrack through zones to solve puzzles, find hidden secrets, and access new pathways as they upgrade their abilities. A major feature includes modernized, fully playable versions of classic DOOM 2 maps built directly into the engine, allowing players to playthrough the Slayer's memories. The expansion also updates the enemy roster with mechanical jousting variants called Buzzsaws and marks the return of the Archvile, which id Software rebalanced to summon fresh demon waves rather than resurrecting dead targets. Balancing your loadout between the spear and the base game's signature shield is vital to surviving these tougher encounters.
Pricing details
Bethesda locked the standalone purchase price for the Revelations expansion at USD 19.99 for standard edition owners. Players can purchase a comprehensive Premium Edition upgrade for USD 34.99, while Premium Edition and Collector's Bundle owners receive automatic day-one access.
Coinciding with the paid expansion, id Software is rolling out the Ripatorium 3.0 system update as a free patch for all players. This update expands customization tools, adds localized preset options, and revises the passcode framework for the arena challenge mode. Completing the campaign unlocks three exclusive Ripatorium maps, unaligned demon archetypes, and pre-upgraded weapon arrays.
